Insurance & valuation
Moving "insurance" is really two different things: the carrier's own liability coverage, and the valuation option you choose for your goods. Here is exactly what B2 carries, what you get for free, what full protection costs — and how to verify all of it yourself.
Federal and California rules require every licensed household-goods mover to offer you a choice of valuation before the move. Valuation is not the same as insurance — it sets the mover's maximum liability for loss or damage to your goods.
The default, included free on every move. Legally called Released Value Protection, it caps the mover's liability at 60 cents per pound, per article. A 50-lb TV damaged beyond repair is compensated $30 — regardless of what it cost. It satisfies the federal minimum but is not meaningful for high-value goods.
Available at an additional charge. Under Full Value Protection the mover is liable for the repair, replacement, or current market value of any item lost or damaged — not 60 cents per pound. This is the right choice for households with electronics, furniture, artwork, or anything of real value. Ask your coordinator to price it when booking.
Side by side
| Released Value (basic) | Full Value Protection | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Included free | Additional charge, priced at booking |
| Coverage basis | 60¢ per pound, per article | Repair, replacement, or current market value |
| Example: 50-lb TV | Pays $30 | Pays repair or replacement cost |
| Legal status | Federal / CA minimum | Optional upgrade you elect in writing |
| Best for | Low-value or already-insured items | Electronics, furniture, artwork, valuables |
Note: valuation is a liability level set with your mover, not a separate insurance policy. Households wanting third-party coverage above these options can also purchase standalone moving insurance from a licensed insurer. High-value or extraordinary items should be declared in writing before the move.
Insurance on the household goods in transit — protecting your belongings from the moment they are loaded until the last box is set down at the new home. This is what stands behind your chosen valuation option.
Covers the home itself — walls, floors, doorframes, elevators, and common areas — at both addresses. This is the coverage a building or HOA is asking about when it requests a certificate of insurance before move-in.
Commercial auto insurance on every truck in our fleet, above state minimums. Because B2 runs its own trucks — no rentals, no brokers — the vehicle on your move is a known, insured asset.
All B2 movers are W-2 employees covered by workers' comp. If a mover is injured on your property, you carry zero liability — a real risk homeowners take when hiring unlicensed day-labor off a classifieds app.
Most high-rises, HOAs, and managed buildings require a Certificate of Insurance before they will let a moving crew through the door. B2 provides them on request.
A Certificate of Insurance (COI) is a one-page document from our insurer confirming our active coverage, the policy limits, and the dates. Buildings use it to verify that if anything happens in a shared elevator, lobby, or hallway, the mover — not the resident — is covered.
Many buildings also ask to be named as an additional insured and have specific coverage minimums. Send us your building's requirements when you book and we'll issue a COI that meets them, typically within 24 hours.
To request one, call (669) 999-5505 or email info@b2movingcompany.com with the building name, address, and any wording the management office provided.

Any legitimate mover will email a certificate of insurance on request. It should name the mover, the policy limits, and the coverage dates — and match the company you booked.
Valuation sets the mover's maximum liability for your goods and comes in two forms — Released Value (60¢ per pound, free) and Full Value Protection (repair/replacement, at extra cost). True moving insurance is a separate policy from a licensed insurer that pays out under its own terms. Every licensed mover must offer valuation; third-party insurance is optional and bought separately. Both can be used together for high-value moves.
Released Value Protection is included free on every move and caps the mover's liability at 60 cents per pound, per article. A 50-pound television damaged beyond repair pays $30, no matter its purchase price, because payment is based on weight, not value. It meets the legal minimum but is not meaningful protection for electronics, furniture, or valuables — for those, choose Full Value Protection.
For most households, yes. Full Value Protection makes the mover liable for the repair, replacement, or current market value of any lost or damaged item — not 60 cents per pound. If you're moving TVs, computers, quality furniture, or artwork, the difference between a $30 payout and full replacement is enormous. Ask your B2 coordinator to price Full Value Protection when you book.
Yes. Send us your building or HOA's insurance requirements when you book — including any additional-insured wording and coverage minimums — and we'll issue a Certificate of Insurance that meets them, typically within 24 hours. Call (669) 999-5505 or email info@b2movingcompany.com with the building name and address.
Yes. Every B2 mover is a W-2 employee covered by workers' compensation, not a subcontractor or day-laborer. If a mover is injured on your property during the move, our workers' comp — not your homeowner's policy — covers it. This is a key reason to avoid unlicensed movers hired off classifieds apps, where an on-site injury can become the homeowner's liability.

B2 is a licensed California carrier. For out-of-state moves, we handle the origin packing, wrapping, and loading in-house, then coordinate the interstate transportation leg with FMCSA-authorized carriers. Federal valuation rules — the same 60¢-per-pound versus Full Value Protection choice — apply to the interstate portion, and we'll walk you through the paperwork so your goods are covered end to end.
Standard valuation excludes items of extraordinary value unless you declare them in writing before the move, and it excludes hazardous materials — gasoline, propane, ammunition, corrosives, and compressed gases — which movers cannot legally transport. Perishables, plants, and irreplaceable documents are best moved personally. Declare high-value items in advance so proper coverage can be arranged.
