The hard moves, and how they went.

Anyone can carry a box across a flat driveway. These are the moves that separate a professional crew from a rental truck and two friends — stairs, tight elevators, live offices, pianos, and buildings with paperwork. Here's how B2 approaches each one.

Household move · Stairs & access

A three-bedroom walk-up with two staircases and not a single scratch.

A Bay Area family was moving from a hillside townhome into a larger house — and the layout was the whole challenge. The old place had a flight of stairs to the street and a second, tighter flight inside; the new home had a long walk from the curb. This is exactly the kind of access that turns a "cheap" hourly quote into a bad afternoon when the crew isn't ready for it.

B2 sent a crew sized for the stairs, not just the square footage. Every piece of furniture was blanket-wrapped before it left a room, banisters and door frames were padded, and the team ran a fixed carry route so two movers were never on the same landing at once. Heavy items came down in a planned sequence rather than one-at-a-time improvisation. The customer's own words afterward — echoing a review we're proud of — were that a move "down 17 stairs, then 40 more" came off "flawless."

Commercial move · Zero downtime

An office relocation over a weekend, back online Monday morning.

For a business, the cost of a move isn't the moving bill — it's the days the team can't work. This office relocation had a hard constraint: everyone had to be productive at the new address first thing Monday. That meant the entire move — desks, monitors, server gear, and dozens of labeled boxes — had to happen inside a single weekend window.

B2 planned it as a commercial project, not a big house move. Workstations were numbered and mapped to their new floor plan so nothing had to be figured out on arrival. Electronics were wrapped and crated, common areas were floor-protected at both buildings, and the crew coordinated with building management on elevator and dock timing. The client's takeaway matched a review we've earned before: the team "wrapped every piece like it was going to a museum" and finished under the estimate — and the office was working again Monday.

Long distance · California relocation

A cross-California move with one written price and no surprise fees.

Long-distance moves are where hidden charges usually live — fuel surcharges, "long carry" add-ons, and re-weighs that inflate the final bill. A household relocating several hundred miles across California wanted the opposite: one number they could plan around.

B2 quoted the move as a binding, not-to-exceed price based on weight and distance, with the truck, wrapping, and equipment included. The origin was packed and loaded by B2's own W-2 crew — no brokers handing the job to a stranger — and the customer knew the cap before anyone touched a box. For moves that cross state lines, B2 handles the origin work in-house and coordinates the interstate transportation leg with FMCSA-authorized carriers, so the household goods stay in professional hands the entire way. The price on delivery day was the price on the estimate.

Specialty item · Piano & high-value goods

A piano down a hallway that was never built for one.

Some items don't forgive a mistake. An upright piano, a marble-top table, and a few pieces of framed art all had to come out of a home with narrow interior doorways and a turn at the bottom of the stairs — the classic scenario where an untrained crew gouges a wall or worse.

B2 treated the specialty pieces as their own mini-project. The piano was measured against the doorways in advance, moved on proper equipment with dedicated crew, and shrink-wrapped and padded before it moved an inch. High-value and fragile items were inventoried and wrapped individually. For households with items like these, B2 also walks through valuation options — the difference between basic 60¢-per-pound coverage and Full Value Protection — before the move, so a valuable piece is properly covered, not just carefully carried.

High-rise · HOA & certificate of insurance

A high-rise move-in that needed the paperwork before the boxes.

Managed buildings add a step most people don't anticipate: the building won't let a moving crew in the door without a Certificate of Insurance on file, often with specific coverage limits and the building named as additional insured. Miss it, and you lose your reserved elevator window — sometimes your whole move day.

For a move into a Bay Area high-rise, B2 handled the requirement up front. The customer forwarded the building's insurance wording, and B2 issued a COI meeting the limits within a day, well before move-in. On the day itself, the crew worked to the building's reserved elevator time, protected the shared lobby and hallways, and kept the load moving so the window wasn't blown. The paperwork was solved before it could become a problem — which is the point.
